Please read and download all forms located on this page. Most of these forms are all required for any Zoning, Construction, and Fire Inspections prior to receiving a Certificate of Occupancy. In particular the Historic District Sign Regulation is only here to provide some guidance as to the type of signage allowable within such a historic district.
Fire Registration Packet: All Businesses within the Town of Newton are required to register with the Fire Prevention Bureau. Please complete and return the application to the Fire Prevention Bureau office on the ground floor of the Municipal Building. Site Plan Waiver Form: Prior to the occupancy of any commercial property, a review by the zoning officer is required. In some cases, Planning Board approval is required. Complete and deliver the form to the Zoning Department office on the 2nd floor of the Municipal Building. Please note there is a fee of $100.00 for a site plan waiver payable to the “Town of Newton” at the time of application. Certificate of Compliance Form: All businesses, whether new or relocating within the town, must receive a Commercial Certificate of Compliance (AKA Certificate of Occupancy), before taking occupancy. This form is to be filled out by either the Landlord or the Occupant and deliver it to the Construction Department Office located on the ground floor of the Municipal building. There is an application fee of $75.00 payable to the “Town of Newton” when delivering the application. Proper procedure requires the Zoning Department & Fire Prevention Bureau approvals prior to a compliance inspection. If you have any questions call Mr. R. Historic District Sign Regulations: All of Main Street Newton’s designated area is either part of the Local Historic District or National Historic District and therefore are subject to some design guidelines that will promote such a designation.
